Background in human resources and organizational leadership
Sarah Simpson-Jones is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor who works with children, adolescents, and adults, with a particular affinity for supporting adolescents and women. Her clinical experience includes helping adolescents, young adults, and families navigate grief, anxiety, depression, identity development, family conflict, trauma, and life transitions. She is especially interested in supporting women through pregnancy, postpartum, midlife transitions, and relationship distress. Her interests also include working with LGBTQ+ individuals, BIPOC communities, neurodivergent individuals, older adults, and others who experience marginalization.
Sarah believes healing occurs within relationships. She aims to create a warm space where clients feel seen and understood, explore their strengths and coping strategies, and move toward meaningful change. She draws from attachment theory, family systems, psychodynamic, and experiential approaches. Grounded in liberation psychology and a decolonizing clinical lens, her work considers how identity, culture, historical experiences, and systems of oppression shape mental health and relationships.
Sarah earned her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Her thesis, The Burden of Strength: The Strong Black Woman Archetype and Black Women’s Relationship to Rest, explored cultural expectations of strength and the healing potential of rest as a birthright. Before becoming a therapist, she spent many years in human resources and organizational leadership, experience that informs her understanding of workplace stress, career transitions, caregiving, and balancing multiple life roles.
Sarah was raised in Sonoma County, California, and has also lived in Santa Barbara, Seattle, and Los Angeles. She brings her perspective as a multiracial Black woman, mother of three, and caregiver to her work. She values curiosity, connection, and honoring each person’s cultural context and lived experience. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, gardening, pilates, and spending time with her family and friends.
